WHY #ISSS2015?
What is a '#' (hashtag)?
Hashtag (#) originated from the social media platform, Twitter, where the community would create a group or a topic by putting a '#' (hashtag) in front of the group or topic name. In our case, the group/event is #ISSS2015 and the topics are (generically) #anthropocene and #systemsthinking (or #systemsscience). There are no limits to the number of hashtags you can create or the topic (it could even be a feeling, for example, feeling #happy).
When we put these terms: #ISSS2015, #anthropocene or #systemsthinking into the search box, all conversations or items with these tags will come up as well as tracking the topics in real time.
Why use a '#' (hash tag)?
As a participant at a conference or event, the #-tag is great for letting people know where you are and what you are doing. You can see trending topics and what other people are reporting/commenting on within a particular session, pointing you to new areas of interest and highlighting interesting people.
During the event, as conference organisers, we are able to project the Twitter feed to see what's trending and what people are thinking about the conference.
For those not physically at the event, it provides a sense of belonging and inclusion even though they aren't able to attend.
How do we use a '#ISSS2015'?
Every time you post an image, video or sound file to Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, in fact to any social media that you use, please enter #ISSS2015 after it. That way, we can create a social media 'buzz' about the event giving you and the event more visibility. It will also help us here at Team ISSS to find you and content about the conference. We'd be grateful and hope that you'll participate and become a digital partner with us!
